Funny River Quilters

The Funny River Quilters are a group of women who love to quilt. Our motto is: We quilt to share because we care, and that motto is on a tag that goes out on every quilt we give, creating goodwill for our community. In the past, each year we have given between 60-100 quilts to residents of the peninsula who are "in need of a hug", whether they are having chemo, surgery, or just suffering life's woes. We've donated animal beds to the Kenai and Soldotna animal shelters, fleece blankets to the foster kids camps for the past several years, over 300 pillowcases for day surgery at the local hospital, and quilts to other charitable organizations having fundraisers to support their good works. For 17 years we've held a golf tournament and silent auction at the Bird Homestead Golf Course to acquire funds to buy fabric, batting, thread, and keep our machines in good repair so that we can pursue our goals. Many present and former members of the community donate fabric to us when they no longer need or want it, thus aiding our endeavors. We meet Thursday from 10 to 2 or 3,.
